Featured ‘Site Specific’ Artists:

1. Lee Mangan (Painting/Sculpture UK)

Mangan burst onto the international art scene in 2005 with an exhibition in New York, an amazing achievement considering he had been painting for less than a year. His work is bleak, intimate and revealing, dealing with life's brutal driving forces. Drawing inspiration from comic artists such as Jim Steranko and Al Columbia, Mangan moulds his oil paintings with electric colours where wilful distortions uncover an honest social critique.

His work has appeared in major festivals including Sonar, and Sonic Art Network conferences. His work has ranged from digital sound performances of electronic generative music, interactive installations and software art. Developing his own custom software his diverse work has explored notions of post-human conditions, issues of control and dehumanising relations with technology, to experiments with digital sound and experimental generative music software. His installation piece explores themes of our inner conditions and the human psyche and our awareness of these imposing and constantly changing inner conditions. 5. Jil Doherty & Jo Lobley (Fine Art, UK)

Jill Tegan Doherty

A recent Graduate from Chelsea College of Art and Design, currently a practising artist in the Borough of Hackney. My Practise is involved with the aspect of the surreal and the extraordinary enchantment and wonderment of the naturalistic world. Using Natures creations almost to stand as a metaphor for the interrelations within the painting, while simultaneously magnifying and focussing on the immaculate structures of the subject matter, delving into the realms of biomorphic abstraction.
There is a certain unease engulfed within the work, certain juxtapositions which occur are awkward, causing an uncertainty within the viewer. The work is intended to conjure up an uncomfortable sense of being, intriguing the viewer to search further inside the woven concealment and thus noticing the small intricacies which slowly begin to reveal themselves somewhere between the venting of the mind and the solidarity of the surface.

6. Töve Andrews (Fine Art, UK)
Originally my work was inspired by issues such as self-mutilation, body modification and medical fetishism, through which I developed an interest in exploring injury in a wider context. I am currently working around the idea that a morbid fascination with injury is as much a part of the collective psyche as illness pain and suffering are fundamental aspects of the human condition. My paintings and other wall based pieces are created using various materials ranging from oil paint on aluminium or board, to leatherette sewn over and into the support, to PVC tapes, scalpel blades, sutures, needles, patterned fabrics and latex. Some could be described as clinically minimal in style, whilst others are more corporeal, with recent works being buckled, hinged or tied together. They are increasingly devoid of visceral imagery as I have become more concerned with implied meaning and their interaction and relationships as objects.
