Experiments 1.0
Guerrilla Zoo presents Experiments 1.0 – Fri 20th Oct 2006 @ Corsica Studios
Live Room >
20.00 – 20.45 DJ MARCELO MADRID (Kosmishce / Resounance)
(STARTING THE NIGHT AND PLAYING IN-BETWEEN LIVE ACTS)
20.45– 21.15 YELLOW 6
(Resonant / Makeminemusic.com)
June 2006 saw Yellow 6’s 50th release on nearly as many record labels, over the years! Raised on punk, English-born Jon Attwood has given up high-tempo, high-energy three-chord anger and given himself over to slow-motion oceans of instrumental bliss. As Yellow 6, his heavily reverbed, beautifully distorted guitars gracefully ascend, swoon and dip, freefall towards the earth, then catch themselves again, slowly tracing a complex and epic trajectory. The backgrounds are minimally constructed; often consisting of little more than some programmed beats and perhaps a bit of feedback. These all-instrumental compositions quietly evoke immense empty spaces, the grandeur of the sky, the stretch of the universe.

21.30– 22.00 THE McCARRICKS
Cellist Martin McCarrick and Violinist Kimberlee McCarrick create a startling display of abstract imagery and sound, set to lead the viewer through a series of different dimensions and emotions. Conjuring dynamic soundtracks for old silent movies shown in tandem with their dark, evocative, compelling, hypnotic, unsettling beautiful music…drawing influences from Shostakovich to the Aphex Twin via Bernard Herrmann.

22.15– 22.45 PINK N RUBY
(Wupadup / Prikosnovenie)
Pinknruby has become something of a Jekyll and Hyde band, sometimes writing ethereal acoustic music and sometimes, kicking dance tunes. At the heart of their music are the two things they love most, an exotic luscious vocal sound and a bewitching gorgeous melody. They perform in wild costumes and elaborate painted face masks as they weave their dreamy fairy acoustic music that you can’t help but fall in love with.

23.00– 23.30 PEYOTI FOR PRESIDENT
(Sordid Soup Records)
Peyoti is a self styled anti-hero. A high octane guitar slinger opposing musical lethargy and conformity. His hybrid style of contemporary world fusion is a combination of Hispanic, Brazilian, Arabic and Caribbean influence pinned together by a more western sensibility. With a voice sun drenched in debauched passion he is an inspired and gifted guitarist who attempts to seduce his audience with melody and serenity interjected with explosive bursts of punky mayhem. Playing with some of the most innovative and diverse world musicians, 'Peyoti for President' is truly unique. A gig unparalleled, a universe of unexplored territory - an atom about to be split wide open. Vote Peyoti!

23.45– 00.15 UNIFORM
(Planet Mu / Ad Noiseam)
Two sound artists who have decided to buy back their souls from the devil who's apparently had enough of them....sticking to the old adage that the devil has the best tunes, their souls are now imbued with the strangest and most subtlest of contortions and so as a result, they now create a dark blend of fractured electronic soundscapes with the odd trombone and bowed guitar thrown in.....

00.30 – 01.00 MISTER WHO
(Dual Amp / Grinnin' Records)
An emcee/songwriter/producer/label owner who started out way back, over drum n bass alongside dj and producer Matrix (metro recordings, Virus). Mister Who has gone through various incarnations perfecting his technique, now with his debut release Speech Therapy/Oceans & Matrix remix of 'Oceans.' Mister Who ‘illustrates London inner city life without reverting to age old Brit-rap stereotypes. Hear the hollers of a preacher. A mixture of vitality and paranoia, something Mister Who depicts brilliantly and theatrically in front of bulky industrial rhythms. Disturbing, honest and excellent.’

22.25-22.45 Fiend (Acoustic Set)
The Fiend is Matt Blair. Matt began playing the guitar and the piano at the innocent age of nine years old and was mainly concerned with acting when he first heard his calling in music. Matt began jamming with various bands and often performing solo at various venues throughout his teens thrashing out Metallica and Smashing Pumpkins covers as fast as possible. I love to rock. Bring on the dirty guitars and stompin' beats, that's what I'm talkin about! Nuff said. My guitars have been my life for the last 10 years. Scraping money together from my students to cover all my costs. I'm just trying to put a band together so I can take these songs on the road, so keep posted everyone and more info will be on the way soon. The darkest of the nights are made here just for YOU.

A heady mix of comedy and contortion, music and magic, Dr Dimaglio has continued to intrigue and delight the crowds. To generate additional spons, He also spread the word of accelerated learning.

" A turbulent musical storm" all the way from Scotland. Stuart Kemsley will be performing a short solo with his brother Andy helping out on guitar. "Crashing drums, thunderous bass lines and wind tunnel guitars are pinned down by a booming baritone vocal delivery to create the bands epic and majestic sound. The Storm Society have only been together a few months but have already caught the attention of a few names in the industry. Despite not being around long enough to even play live they have landed themselves management and a single / album deal with the seminal indie label Enraptured Records. Watch out, the storm is heading this way....."

00.00-00.30 The Space Hijackers *DIDN’T HAPPEN!* (Live Social Experiment)
The Space Hijackers is an inventive and subversive group of London ‘Anarchitects’ who specialise in reclaiming public spaces – usually without permission. Projects have ranged from ‘guerrilla benching’ (taking benches to sites where they had recently been removed by Camden Council, and bolting them to the pavement) to organising a midnight game of cricket in the middle of the City. Most recently they have taken particular umbrage to the glossy architects’ drawings that get pinned on the side of the fencing around luxury flat developments, and have been producing their own pastiches, depicting children’s playgrounds and other things that people would actually like to see built.
