Sounds like a Rumpus!

Our friends at Rumpus Party are getting themselves ready to jump, dive, shimmy and jive with you folks as they celebrate the New Year a bit late and Carnival a bit early with an all-out barrage of non-stop over–the-top animalistic carnivalistic Rumpus.

The first Rumpus of 2012 will be Rumpus Vol. 8: Carnival of the Animals, on February 3rd. They’ve got a bunch of extraordinarily kick-ass bands such as Halouminati, Slamboree and Smokey Taps pouring forth a heady stream of the most musical madness. Barking Bateria will be in laying down some carnival tunes from the old country. Joined by DJs such as Carl Jader, Pony Montana and their very own Dr Malaka as they spin shockingly sublime sounds. The Rubbish Sideshow Circus will be inspiring, delighting and frightening you with their aerial acrobatic antics. And, thier dear dear friends Travelling Tavern will be laying down good time old time entertainment.

"We’ll be expecting to see you in your most outlandish, colourful, glitzy and shiny carnival outfits, as we go a bit Mardi Gras, a bit Carnival, and bring a whole lotta colour to London Town. Get yer tickets plenty quick, as they are flying out the door!"

Help Alejando Jodorowsky's new film become a reality

We invite you to participate in an exciting new crowdfunding campaign to help legendary Chilean artist and director Alejandro Jodorowsky create his new film "The Dance of Reality."

Alejandro Jodorowsky is recognized worldwide as one of the most important artists of the last decades, who has excelled in various disciplines. His work as a writer (poet and playwright), philosopher, writer, actor, mime, puppeteer, film director, tarot instructor, painter and psychomagical therapy creator, catapults him to a different level than the usual, so much so that we dedicated an entire season to his ground breaking and momentous work. His imagination seemingly having no limit!

Jodorowsky explains it: "... The key is the active imagination of a broad vision: [it] can approach life from angles that are not ours, imagining other higher levels of consciousness ..."

Alejandro is great inspiration to many generations of artists; Directly influencing musicians such as Marilyn Manson, Peter Gabriel, Company Flow & Kasabian. Fans include directors David Lynch, William Friedkin and Samuel Fuller, actors Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper, and performers Bob Dylan, George Harrison, MGMT, Balkan Beat Box, John Lennon & Yoko Ono, amongst countless others.
If you haven't seen his cult midnight movie El Topo or The Holy Mountain, check them out. A psychedelic visual and magically roller-coaster into the surreal and strange consciousness of man.

He is now 84 years old and this will be a great opportunity for fans to see his a film about his story, by the man himself! The film project "The Dance of Reality" is based on the first part of his autobiography imaginary (book of the same name), though not in the sense of "fictitious" because all the characters, places and events are true, but in the fact that the deep history of life is an ongoing effort to expand the imagination and expand your limits, to seize it in its therapeutic potential transformer.
The production will develop his early experiences and life growing up in Tocopilla, a small town in northern Chile.

Please support this amazing film project and help him raise the funds he needs. Since he launched it 3 weeks ago he's only managed to get $7k, which is a very low amount for such a great and respected directer.

Franko B is one of the most important and influential UK based artists of his generation, and he needs your support. He is an artist whose work in performance, film, painting and as a mentor and facilitator has been demonstrably instrumental in revolutionizing approaches to performance, to the politics of the body in art, and to critical discourses for over a decade.

'Because of Love ' is a major new performance piece which aims to bring his practice to new audiences - not only within the context of visual art, but also dance and theatre. The piece is concerned with childhood, humanity, inhumanity, love and grief.

The film 'Bronson' was aired on TV the other evening. This was the first time Charles Bronson has actually been able to see it the film based on his life, all be it from his cell in solitary!

Marilyn Manson new video pays homage to Alejandro Jodorowsky

Directed by Transformers star Shia LaBouef, Marilyn Manson’s self-produced video for his new song “No Reason” pays homage to Alejandro Jodorowsky’s The Holy Mountain. Manson and Jodorowsky are friends (Alejandro wanted to cast Marilyn in an El Topo sequel) and I guess this is Manson’s way of honoring his master.

Other influences I detect floating through the video are from George Bataille’s “The Story Of The Eye,” Takashi Miike’s Ichi, The Killer, Joel-Peter Witkin and new wave porn flicks like Night Dreams and Cafe Flesh.

I don’t think Manson is challenging himself with this. Been there, done that. But, anything that calls attention to Jodorowsky is in my opinion a good thing.

Guerrilla Zoo was very lucky to feature some of Charles Bronson's unique art at our last exhibition, Modern Panic. We are in support of the Charlie Bronson Appeal Fund, which has been established to help fund Charlie's legal fight for freedom.

He has now spent over 37 years' imprisoned, 32 of those in solitary confinement. He has not been able to mix with other prisoners since 1999. Charlie spends 23 hours of the day in solitary confinement.

Charlie was first imprisoned in 1974, (aged 22) sentenced to seven years for an armed robbery at a Post Office in Little Sutton, a suburb of Ellesmere Port, during which he stole £26.18. His sentence was repeatedly extended for crimes committed within prison as Charlie fought against the system. Contrary to popular belief, Charlie has never harmed anyone outside of the prison walls. He has never taken a life. He has spent a total of just four months and nine days out of custody since 1974. He was released on 30 October 1988 and spent sixty-nine days as a free man before being arrested for robbery, and then released again on 9 November 1992, spending fifty-three days as a free man before being arrested again, this time for conspiracy to rob.

In 1999, he took Phil Danielson, an Art Teacher hostage at Hull prison. Charlie has stated he did this as he was in fear for his own life and acting under duress. Despite escaping the more serious charges in his trial, he was sentenced to Life with a recommended three year tariff in 2000.

Charlie was refused legal aid back in March 2011 to get his case back to the Criminal Cases Review Committee and contest the Parole Board's decision to deny him parole, de-categorisation or any kind of progression.
He is looking to appeal his 2000 discretionary life sentence. Since he is now EIGHT YEARS OVER the three year tariff, his family, friends and many supporters believe he should be a free man. The Appeal Fund therefore exists to fund his legal fight, pay solicitors and barristers fees, pay for independent reports and other costs as they arise.

100% of all the money donated to the Appeal Fund goes towards Charlie's fight for freedom.

We think 38 YEARS is long enough for a man who has never taken a life or harmed anyone outside of the prison walls.

A Season of Jodorowsky - Teaser Film Trailer

Film maker Tom Cottey has just released a teaser trailer for his documentary film 'A Season of Jodorowsky' based on his time following Guerrilla Zoo's art director James Elphick around in 2009 during our month long celebration of the works of Alejandro Jodorowsky.
We have seen the final cut and it's looking fantastic! The film is set to be showcased at several film festivals before it is officially released.

FoolishPeople is proud to announce the production of their first feature film 'Strange Factories', a psychological thriller written by John Harrigan and directed by Richard Webb and John Harrigan, shooting in Prague over September-October 2011.

As FoolishPeople enters new realms, our ethos remains the same for our audience: Static consumption is not possible, active engagement and participation is vital and absolutely necessary.

'Strange Factories' is a living feature film; a unique and original project that fuses cinema with a dreamlike, immersive environment to create an experience like no other. The film will be toured and presented within a live, site specific event that explores the earliest traditions of cinema and film via the touring traditions of Phantasmagoria and theatric arcana.

Not only will you be able to watch the film in an atmospheric setting that immerses you in the world of 'Strange Factories' but you will also be able to witness the manifestation of the creatures and characters from Stronheim's village as they come to life around you. We have left a space for you to interact with the film, and become part of the story, should you so wish.

The Story: 
A storyteller possessed and haunted by an idea for a new fable searches for four lost friends, refugee performers of a theatre destroyed in a mysterious fire: Sam, who is obsessed with dangerous stage effects, Jessica, a glamorous femme fatale, Rose, who has sacrificed her life to art and Hettie, a clown who hides a secret. 

Victor is convinced their unique skills will help him complete work on a story he fears is becoming a paradox. 
He finds his friends in a remote, pagan village founded by Stronheim; owner of a Strange Factory hidden deep in the local countryside, infamous for the frequencies of sound it emits.   Victor inadvertently enters into a dangerous covenant, when Stronheim vows to re-build the theatre if Victor learns the truth hidden at the heart of his story in time for it to be performed at the village festival. 

The key to the group’s success lies in unravelling how Victor's story relates to the customs of the villagers: bizarre rites practiced under influence of a hallucinogenic effluence siphoned out of the Strange Factory and served at the local pub. 
Kidnapped actors, hideous monsters, invisible escape artists and ghosts of audiences past, present and future manifest in a landscape haunted by phantasmagoria.

Limited Invitations on Sale for Live Art Happening / Private View Opening @ Modern Panic

We are releasing a very limited number of tickets to the public for the spectacular bombardment of the senses that is our private view of new provocative exhibition Modern Panic. We are creating a 'Panic Ephemeral' - An art happening, where many of the artists will be producing their work live in front of your eyes. This will be a mixture of powerful and unforgetable live art, surreal dadaist music and sonic sounds designs to access the 'other side' and shudderingly mind bending performance art.

Panic Ephemeral was originally concieved by Alejandro Jodorowsky, Fernado Arrabal and Roland Topor as part of thier provocations of the Panic Movement.

Panic Happenings: Manifested through three basic elements: Horror, Humour and simultaneity. The sole intent was to attack the audience with a barrage of conflicting yet rhythmic stimuli; the effect was a jarring sensory overload. Through this crazed fractured riot of noise, colour and mood, the idea was that the witness could somehow assemble their own sense of reality.
