A collection of seven short films, WATASHI is the result of a collaboration between movement artist Masumi Saito and film-maker Guy Wigmore.
Saito who has previously performed at our Modern Panic exhibition series, stepped away from live performance to focus on this project. It gave her the opportunity to create something both permanent and accessible. The films presented a new freedom and new challenges, resulting in a beautifully varied and deeply fascinating picture of one of the UK's most brilliant artist's in motion.
Featuring a stunning and emotive butoh inspired contemporary movement based piece filmed at the Old Abattoir whilst we curated Modern Panic II.
Music comes from the likes of Aches (SE), Theo Adams Company (GEKI-JYO), Jordan Hunt (INORI), Oren Marshall (MICHI), Stephen Polydorou (SOFA) and Junya Yanagidaira (HITORI) with make-up and illustration work from the mighty TOMOHIRO Muramatsu (GEKI-JYO & SE) and costume by Gabriella Gower (HITORI).
