Saito who has previously performed at our Modern Panic exhibition series, stepped away from live performance to focus on this project. It gave her the opportunity to create something both permanent and accessible. The films presented a new freedom and new challenges, resulting in a beautifully varied and deeply fascinating picture of one of the UK's most brilliant artist's in motion. Featuring a stunning and emotive butoh inspired contemporary movement based piece filmed at the Old Abattoir whilst we curated Modern Panic II. Music comes from the likes of Aches (SE), Theo Adams Company (GEKI-JYO), Jordan Hunt (INORI), Oren Marshall (MICHI), Stephen Polydorou (SOFA) and Junya Yanagidaira (HITORI) with make-up and illustration work from the mighty TOMOHIRO Muramatsu (GEKI-JYO & SE) and costume by Gabriella Gower (HITORI). http://masumisaito.bigcartel.com/product/watashi Every year since 2008, the 40th anniversary of Brian Jones’s visit to Joujouka, an intimate festival is held in the village. Following in the footsteps of Paul Bowles, Brion Gysin, William Burroughs, Brian Jones and some of the world’s most challenging artists.
The remarkable music played by the Master Musicians of Joujouka, a remote village in the Ahl Srif tribal area south of the Rif in Northern Morocco, is thousands of years old. In the 15th century, when the Sufi saint Sidi Ahmed Schiech arrived in the village, he wrote music for the Masters’ ancestors which could heal disturbed minds. Today’s Masters are blessed with the Baraka or spirit of their saint and use touch and prayer to heal. The Festival is all about offering a very small group of people the opportunity to live in Joujouka with the Master musicians as your hosts and experience the music in the village and spectacular landscape in which it belongs. People who speak French, Arabic and English and who have long, strong connections with the village are on hand to answer questions and make you feel as at home as possible. Because of the nature of the Festival, numbers have to be strictly limited to 50 people and this means it’s essential to book early if you want to have this incredible experience. The Masters play for you and the village every night of the Festival on the stage which was purpose built for them and they spend most of the days playing. Music is part of the fabric of Joujouka and the essence of your experience. The next Master Musicians of Joujouka Festival takes place from 14-16 June 2013 Booking Now : http://www.joujouka.org/the-festival/ As we await the forth coming release of Alejandro Jodorowsky's film 'La Danse de la Réalité', Alejandro tells us of the struggle to fund a fully creatively free movie without Hollywood and the harnessing the power of fans.

Join us! The first long feature documentary about iconic writer William S. Burroughs, one of the most radically subversive literary figures of the 20th century and Godfather to the Beat poets such as Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, is set to be restored and re-released after decades of being out of print. Brookner and Burroughs, NYFF 1983 (c) Paula Court In 1989, Howard Brookner died of AIDS in Manhattan. The talented "downtown" New York filmmaker was only 34 years old, although he already had three solid films under his belt: "Bloodhounds on Broadway (1989)," starring Madonna, "Robert Wilson and the Civil Wars (1987),'' and "Burroughs: The Movie (1983)."
After two decades out of print, "Burroughs: The Movie" is finally getting some attention through the work of his devoted nephew, Aaron Brookner. "As I kid I didn’t know about AIDS, so the last couple years of his life left an impression on me. When he died, it shattered the family quite a bit." The late Howard Brookner began his Burroughs film while in NYU film school in 1978 with his fellow students Jim Jarmusch, who did the sound, and Tom DiCillo on camera. Five years later Brookner had finished Burroughs: The Movie with the help of BBC. ‘Burroughs: The Movie’ features the writer’s close circle of friends including Patti Smith, Allen Ginsberg, Brion Gysin, Francis Bacon, John Giorno, James Grauerholz and Terry Southern. The film premiered at the 1983 New York Film Festival to rave reviews. Aaron Brookner, who is also a filmmaker, plans to create a film about his uncle’s life called Smash The Control Machine: Howard Brookner & the Western Lands using much of the found footage. “Howard is a strong inspiration and he lived a short but beautiful life full of sardonic wit. He was a great filmmaker and this discovery will allow the world to enjoy his work. I want to honour who he was through the memories of those he influenced, and the films he made.” The Kickstarter campaign officially launched on December 1st 2012 , to mark World AIDS Day. On December 11, a screening of the film will be held at October Gallery in London. With 23 days to go, please check out Aaron Brookner's detailed Kickstarter campaign and pledge to support this fantastic project. Help preserve this rare and unique first documentary film about William S Burroughs. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pinball/restoration-of-burroughs-the-movie-by-howard-brook Source : Huffington Post (with Q&A) and Press Release |
